These incredibly easy-to-make smoked salmon twisted straws will be the perfect starters for your Christmas party – or any party, actually! In this recipe, I will explain how I prepared these twists with smoked salmon. Alternatively, you can fill them with ham and cheese, or pesto and cheese to please your vegetarian guests. With one roll of puff pastry, I obtained 9 twists.

-
Preheat oven at 180C (fan).
-
Unroll the puff pastry sheet.
-
Place the slices of smoked salmon on half of the puff pastry sheet. Fold the pastry in half.
-
Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into long strips about 1.5 cm wide.
-
Take a baking tray and cover it with a baking sheet. As you transfer each strip on the baking sheet, twist the ends in opposite directions to give the straws a spiraled look. Gently press the ends into the sheet to make them stick.
-
Brush each twist with a beaten egg. Sprinkle some poppy seeds (or sesame seeds, or both).
-
Place the baking tray in the middle of the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the twists are nicely golden. Once baked, let them cool down for a few minutes before serving.
